LAURA & DAAN
English Gal Laura and her Dutch catch Daan
I love an unusual wedding, and Laura and Daan’s day was spectacular by all standards. The couple were already married, having their official ceremony in Amsterdam, Daan’s (very marvellous) hometown. I was initially Skyped by Laura, who wanted somebody to be a fly on the wall for their English wedding. As documentary photography is very much ‘my thing’, I was looking forward to seeing what the day would bring.
The day started off with the beautiful bride Laura, who was getting ready at the Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel. Makeup Artist ‘Able Mabel’ was dolling up Laura and her two bridesmaids, whilst the third bridesmaid (who unfortunately couldn’t make it due to her mum being poorly) was on FaceTime. The atmosphere was lovely and relaxed with lots of laughter.

Once Laura was ready, I headed to the most incredible venue, Circomedia. Not your typical venue, Circomedia is an old church, home to circus and physical theatre training. The place was stunning, decorated by Laura’s friend, who was also to thank for the amazing floral arrangements.
Guests were greeted by an acrobat throwing petals from their perch. Once Laura arrived, it was time for the mock ceremony and readings by friends. After a joyous ceremony, socialising began with delicious canapes, and the well-travelled guests finally arrived from Birmingham just in time for the sit-down meal.
This was followed by an impromptu cake ‘cutting’… or rather ‘digging in’ due to the lack of knife, before the memorable first dance to The Pogue’s Fairytale of New York. There was lots of crazy dancing, aerial silk acrobatics and an evening buffet.
I’d like to thank Laura and Daan for letting me photograph such a different wedding, and congrats to you both on your marriage!
