Getting Married at Old Gore Barn

Everything You Need To Know About Getting Married at Old Gore Barn, Cotswolds

Ah, the Cotswolds. That beautiful part of England that so many people love and want to be around. I don’t even know how many wedding venues there are in this area but I’m sure it’s a lot! However, I’m focusing on one venue today, one that’s relatively new to the block—Old Gore Barn near Cirencester. Here’s everything you need to know about getting married at Old Gore Barn.

About Old Gore Barn

There’s not a lot to tell you about the history of Old Gore Barn (not much I could find out about online, anyway), but I can tell you it’s a listed building dating back to the early 1800s. The barn has been through a massive renovation in recent years and the venue, now owned and run by Yard Space Events company, has been functioning as a wedding and events venue since 2021. It promises a street food-style event and there’s a lot of emphasis on the amazing food created and served there.

As a wedding venue, it’s licensed for civil ceremonies and can seat up to 150 guests (with space for another 50 guests for the evening). So, there’s definitely a lot of space here if that’s what you need. It’s also an all-in-one kind of venue. You can say your ‘I dos’ and then party on into the night without having to move elsewhere!

Wedding Prep

There isn’t any accommodation at Old Gore Barn itself. However, this isn’t really an issue as there are a multitude of places to choose from within easy distance of the venue. The website lists a huge number of places—cottages, hotels, camping etc.

For Laura and Ben’s wedding, they rented a beautiful holiday cottage called Mill Bank House which was less than 2 miles from the venue. But there are so many options so you won’t struggle to find places to stay for your special day.

Your Ceremony

It’s a short drive to the venue and, as you arrive at Old Gore Barn, you won’t fail to be impressed with the beautiful barn and surrounding grounds and views. Your ceremony will take place in the barn itself and it’s such a breathtaking space. Old stone walls, a stunning vaulted ceiling, flagstone floors and a wood burner are the main features of the barn. There’s also a giant window that lets in glorious light to brighten up the space beautifully.

Old Gore Barn is also a great example of a venue that doesn’t need tons of decoration to make it look good. In fact, the building will shine on its own, thank you very much! Just some well-placed foliage and flowers hanging from the ceiling will finish off what is a very pretty backdrop for your special day.

Party Time!

Once the official bit is over, it’s time to head outside and into the stunning courtyard space, which overlooks the gorgeous English countryside that this part of the world is famous for.

There’s a stairway leading into the courtyard which makes a great spot to get everyone to line up and celebrate your first few minutes as a newly married couple with pretty confetti alternatives such as bubbles. I’m not sure if actual confetti is allowed here so you would have to check with the venue.

Then, while I get to work on your formal group photos, your guests can hang out in the courtyard with snacks and drinks. There’s also plenty of room to set up some lawn games and entertainment to keep kids (and grown-ups) busy while the food is being prepped.

Your dinner will be served banquet-style in the ‘long barn’. Be careful, the ceilings are a little lower here so tall guests might need to mind their heads! But it’s such a pretty space and you’ll all be sitting down to eat most of the time anyway, right?

I particularly loved the outdoor space under the curved corrugated roof. It was an area that came into its own as the evening came and I loved seeing the firepit all lit up

Old Gore Barn is a place that’s so pretty and packed with perfect photo-op spots around every corner! It’ll definitely keep your photographer (i.e. me!) busy the whole day, that’s for sure. And there are even some lovely nearby areas we can whisk the two of you off to for couple photos ensuring you’ll get the kind of pictures you’ll love looking at for years and years to come.
