JOHN & KATE
Irish lass Kate & Russian guy John
I met Kate & John over a Skype call back in the summer after a good friend of mine recommended me to them to capture their wedding day. I was instantly attracted to their laidback approach to the wedding planning. The couple had booked a hotel, Stef had secured herself a wedding dress from eBay, what else was there to do!
I do love an autumn wedding; the light is so much softer than summer weddings, the autumn colours are just striking. When I arrived at the beautiful Guyers House Hotel near Chippenham to document Kate and John’s marriage, the autumn scene was picture perfect. Kate was looking radiant and was as calm as a mill pond. I nipped between bride and groom capturing the wedding prep before taking a position in the stunningly decorated ceremony room.

THANK YOU for the incredible photos. We had such a giggle going through them and reliving the day. So fun!!

Kate walked herself down the rather narrow aisle into the arms of soon to be husband John. There were lots of giggles from both parties. The couple read their vows and exchanged rings, shedding a few tears along the way. Once formalities were complete, the happy couple squeezed their way back up the aisle to a rapturous applause, before being doused with a good helping of homemade confetti.
The guests, a mix of Irish, Russian and ex-Oxford university folk seemed to be mingling quite nicely over canapes and champagne. The skies began to look a tad dark at this point, so we cracked on with the group photos and the ‘romantic portraits’ before the heavens opened. They did on cue just as the guests took to their seats. I was particularly lucky as I got to sit with the guests, I even had a wedding favour with my name on it!
It is a Russian tradition to say a few words sporadically during the wedding breakfast, once the person has finished speaking everyone makes a lot of noise and throws themselves at the closest person for a hug while the bride and groom snog. I’m sure there’s more to it than this, but this is what I witnessed. Lots of noise and lots of kissing.
The wedding breakfast flew by, and soon we were on the dance floor observing some excellent dance moves. The evening was finally rounded off with some outside nighttime photos of the happy couple jumping around. I think the jumping and heel-clicking is a Russian thing, Kate seems to have it mastered though!
