Every photographer loves to work at unique locations, and Kensington Rooftop Gardens was the kind of venue that I knew I would fall in love with from the moment Bea and Chris described it to me. A Grade II listed Eden, set 100ft above London was a true spectacle that provided the perfect setting for a wedding. The coming together of the Chinese and British cultures in an idyllic city location that was home to the original tall long legged birds (a beautiful flock of flamingos), got me extremely excited for the big day.
It was a beautifully sunny, mid-week wedding that I was shooting with my friend, Eleanor. We arrived at The Rooftop Gardens early to snap Bea and her bridesmaids as they got ready for the magnificent day ahead before making our way down to the ceremony. After a celebratory confetti throw, the formalities were out of the way and the fun started! Greeted with caviar, we headed outside to the luscious gardens to photograph the array of group pictures in the sunshine. While everyone was enjoying a good ol’ chin wag, a magician weaved in and out of the guests showing off his card tricks which made for good entertainment. This gave me a little time to get some shots of the beautiful long legged flamingos that were wandering around the Spanish garden.
This led to the Chinese boulevard. The room was bursting with colour and character from the Chinese culture. Hundreds of red and gold lanterns hung from the ceiling along with beautifully crafted origami birds and butterflies. The newlyweds made their entrance after Bea changed into a marvellous lucky red number for the Chinese banquet and traditional tea ceremony, where the bride and groom kneel in front of their parents and serve them tea, thanking the couple for raising them. This was followed by a magnificent Chinese dragon performance (that I will never forget!), and a traditional sherry toast.
Day turned into night with a spectacular view of a stunning sunset over the River Thames, perfect for a few romantic shots. As the sky turned dark, Bea changed into a party dress and danced the night away with her husband, family and friends.
The Roof Gardens in Kensington was a truly spectacular location that any bride could make their own. A breathtaking location and a marvellous day, it was a pleasure to document Bea and Chris’ wedding. Congratulations both!
Wow- the photos look amazing, Chris and I love them! We are super excited to see the rest of them. Appreciate we didn’t get a chance to say this at the end of the wedding but THANK YOU so much for all of your efforts and also for being a part of our special day. You were extremely professional and we are so happy you were our photographer. Chris & Bea.
