ALEX & LUKE
The wedding of Alex and Luke at Pynes House in Devon may have been my last big wedding of 2019, but it was by no means the least! In fact, I’d say my year ended with a big bang with this wedding. While it was my first as a Pynes House wedding photographer, I hope it won’t be my last! This beautiful wedding was an honour to be a part of and an absolute joy to capture.
Pynes House, set amongst the rolling Devon countryside a few miles outside of Exeter, is a country manor house steeped in history. Dating right back to the Norman period, with its own royal connection, there is definitely an air of grandeur about this spectacular venue. The sweeping tree-lined driveway adds to that feeling. I started the day with Alex and her girls all getting ready. Alex is a stunning woman and she already looked glamourous before she’d even had her hair and make-up done! Becky Flynn and Louise Alway did an amazing job of getting her wedding-ready though. But the girls totally could have got away with turning up in their pyjamas as they all looked so elegant.
Luke and the boys were also getting ready at Pynes House. I was able to pop upstairs to see them and get some shots of them during their final preparations. I then went back to Alex’s room to capture her putting on her beautiful Noble & Wright wedding dress. We then spent a few minutes getting some informal photographs by the floral fireplace, with her stunning bouquet from Emma Hewlett Floral Design.
Alex and Luke were married at the nearby church, in a beautiful ceremony full of lots of little personal touches. Ellie read out the personalised poem ‘A Message to You’ which was so lovely. The couple also exchanged rings they designed themselves and made by Stephen Wilkinson. The ceremony was also filled with amazing music from the gospel choir, Gospel Touch. I particularly loved their rendition of Amazing Grace and their version of Ain’t No Mountain High Enough really got the guests revved up!

Thank you so much for our photos, we feel you really have captured the day and the colour/tone of them is just what we hoped for.
On the day you were absolutely fantastic, even plying me with ‘calms’ which I most certainly needed.
I honestly didn’t even notice you and I really appreciated you supporting me in the quickest formal photo session ever!!
I highly recommend you and really hope you are able to photograph at Pynes house again…maybe in better weather!!
ALEX & LUKE

Being a late autumn wedding meant the weather wasn’t at its best. Things got a bit wet and windy at times, but Alex and Luke smiled on through it all. They braced themselves for a wet confetti throw after the ceremony. Then, back at Pynes House, they braved the elements for some group and couple shots as the guests enjoyed a champagne and oyster reception. Big thanks to the ever-talented Harry from Chestnut Productions for kindly holding an umbrella over me as I took those photographs!
The dining room at Pynes House looked stunning. Definitely one of the best I’ve seen this year. It included the talented stylings of Duchess & Butler, Just 4 Linen and Keeping It Vintage, as well as more of those gorgeous blooms from Emma, all the styling and designs cleverly brought together by Alex herself! I can’t mention the dining room without also referring to the awesome caterers Alex and Luke had. The super talented guys from Pickle Shack provided an amazing menu to keep the guests very happy indeed.
After the speeches, everyone retired to the drawing-room where the fires were lit. This provided a warm and comfy space for evening cocktails and desserts. It also gave me plenty of opportunities to get loads of great candid photographs. Alex and Luke cut the cake before heading into their first dance, where Alex showed us all some very enthusiastic moves on the dancefloor!
As is my way, I left this awesome bunch dancing into the night. The wind and rain had not stopped these guys from having the warmest, friendliest and happiest wedding a couple could have. It was my absolute pleasure to capture every moment of it.
