After a year of incredible weddings in 2015 and before I prepare for the excitement 2016 is sure to bring, I find myself reflecting on a year of photographs. It seems traditional for us wedding photographers to look back at the year in search of those images which really made our hearts sing!
January is also an ideal time to look at my progression as a photographer and make those all important plans to build on that growth. Last year I attended several workshops as well as a truly inspiring residential course in Wales.
I rubbed shoulders with some of the top wedding photographers in the world and picked up so many new tips and ways of working. Networking was high on my to do list and I’ve made new friends in the industry, which now means I have a quality stash of second shooters and other photographers to call upon in case of emergency.
To summarise the year…. there were so many incredible weddings, I had no idea they could be so diverse. From 5 star hotels with hundreds of guests to garden party celebrations in a field as well as one with just the couple and their witnesses. Each brought something different, many presented new challenges and I loved all of them. There were so many highlights but if I had to choose…..these are my top three.
Documenting my first single sex wedding, (it was amazing)
Having my photos published in Hello Magazine (I know!)
and being selected as a finalist in the Wedding industry awards. (seriously chuffed)
My brides and grooms were so positive with their feedback, it was truly overwhelming and completely confirms that all my hard work is worthwhile and appreciated. It’s fabulous to know that they are enjoying and valuing their photographs as the family heirlooms I am striving to create.
I have lots of exciting weddings booked for this year and finally one in a tipi! I can’t wait to get started in April… I wonder what 2016 will bring?
