Bring on the Tears of Joy: Why You Need a Wedding Photo Film

As part of my wedding packages, I’ve been giving out slideshows to my couples for years now. A selection of your wedding images, set to music, so you’ve got something you can show off on socials or to friends and family. But, in all honesty, I’d been thinking about wanting to make that experience better for a while now. As lovely as those slideshows are, they felt a bit impersonal to me and, well, like something every other photographer out there is offering. And if there’s one thing I love to do, it’s offer something a bit different to my couples. So, over lockdown, I put my thinking cap on and came up with a rather fabulous idea (even if I say so myself!). I’ve created the wedding photo film, and here’s why you should include it as part of your wedding photography package!

What is a Wedding Photo Film?

You’ve seen photography slideshows before, no doubt. Some chosen images, set to music. Couples love them because it’s a condensed and enjoyable way to view some of your wedding photos. It beats scrolling endlessly through an online gallery or a folder on your computer.

And no doubt you know about wedding films too. Videography has had a massive overhaul in the wedding industry in the last few years. Wedding videos don’t have to be those long, tedious and cheesy offerings that they were in the past! Now, they’re full of sentiment, beautiful music, snippets of important moments, and they’re a lot shorter.

So, a wedding photo film combines the best elements of these two areas. And I am now proudly offering them as part of my wedding photography packages! A mix of your edited images, along with snippets of video and sound from your day. Something personal to you, full of emotion and sentiment and totally unique from what anyone else out there will have!

The Inspiration

Like I said, I had found I was out of love with wedding slideshows. The music choices are pretty limited, and they can all start to look a bit samey after a while. Not to mention they’re not very personal.

It came to me as I was capturing speeches at one wedding. I love listening to them while I’m working. Lovely things get said, and they can be pretty funny too! But I thought it was a shame that I couldn’t convey what was being said in my photos because people couldn’t hear what was happening again.
The pandemic also showed me that video does have huge importance these days. Especially when couples couldn’t invite all the people they wanted to their special day. So, having some kind of video record to show those who couldn’t attend became crucial.

I started capturing little bits of video and audio from the ceremony to add to my slideshows. It’s been a learning curve! I’ve had to figure out how to capture video on my camera, and learning the best way to capture sound has been interesting! Not to mention the editing process afterwards.

But the result is these wedding photo films that I’m really quite proud of! A combination of photos, moving images and sound, recorded from your day for a truly emotive and personal record of your event.

Why Include a Wedding Photo Film?

Important parts of the day, like exchanging your vows or the speeches, are great parts to capture and include in your wedding photo film. They’re personal to each couple, and hearing them as you watch your photo film will be wonderful. I’ll also capture other relevant audio, like if you have a musician, reading or the sound of the church bells, for example.

What you need to know

So far, I’ve only been able to put these wedding photo films together at short COVID-restricted weddings. But as things pick up, I’ll be putting more together from full weddings, so I’ll soon have some examples to show you all!

I can even personalise your wedding photo film with matching fonts and designs from your wedding invites! Now, how’s that for a personal touch?

I upload the videos to Vimeo, but they’ll only be viewable to those who have the link. You’ll also be able to download the video to keep afterwards, too.

In the meantime, here are a few lovely examples of the shorter weddings I’ve captured:
